Airfield cafes that you do or don't use!

Hi Guys n Gals,

A mate of mine commented that I was the only person he knew that rated airfields by the standard of the catering! A bit harsh but I know what he means.

So I thought it would be nice to get some recommendations of where to, and not to eat.

I'll start off with the lovely cafe at Sleap.

The cafe's located on the first floor of the tower and has a smart little terrace to relax and view from. Here's me and my mate Ken (Ken's on the right), with our trusty steeds!



And an example of the fine food, this time one of my favourite's Ham, Egg n Chips.



We followed the main course with apple pie & ice cream but didn't waste time taking another photo!

So who's going to be next and where?

After a sunday market at Blackbushe we go over to the Bushe Cafe next to the flightline with the kids. Very frioendly and a good standard meal and excellent views of the apron:

How to get to The Bushe
We are mid way between the two junctions for the A327 on the A30. Situated at Blackbushe Airport in the single storey building on the left as you enter the car park.

If you are coming from the M3, take junction 4a and followthe signs for the A30 & Hartley Whitney on the A327, once you join the A30 we are half a mile on the right

If you are approaching from Reading, follow the A327 south towards Farnborough and then turn left onto the A30, cross over the small roundabout at BCA Car Auctions and we are 1 mile on the left.

Hi Guys n Gals,

well a good start so far then!

A few weeks ago I paid my first visit to Caernarfon for years and discovered they've built a new airport complex, including a friendly cafe.

You can't miss the glass fronted building, along with seating and tables outside and they offer a take out (discounted) service as well.

As I don't eat black pudding, and didn't fancy mushrooms, then the plate looks a little bare but the food was really tasty and I'll guarantee to return.



In addition to the cafe, the reception staff, and everyone at the facility were very helpful and happy to accept us enthusiasts.

Evening all
Bill S & myself have started 'doing' airfield cafes in the light of this thread.
We used to meet at Fairoaks about once every fortnight, but it got a little boring so we 'spread our wings' so to speak.

Before you read this diatribe I am a coffee 'freak' DO NOT like instant (granulated camel sh*t,as my Grandmother [rightly] used to call it).
Much prefer coffee on the continent (Italian/Dutch/French in that order) than the dishwater served up here, so be aware, I am biased. .

Fairoaks, haven't tried the food but the coffee is instant so only O.K.

Booker ,High Wycombe, Friendly welcoming ,food is good too , coffee instant so only O.K..

White Waltham, not welcoming ,(might be just me), coffee instant so only O.K. didn't try the food.

We are supposed to be trying a 'new cafe' at Denham in the next week or so.

I haven't visited for 12months or so but the Cafe at Compton Abbas was good and on Sunday's, it got very busy. The menu was quite basic (nothing fancy) but the food was good and not too badly priced.

Compton Abbas is also good for photography and being up on high ground, there are some stunning views of the local area

We've used Shobdon cafe a few times and think the food is very good and reasonably priced but be warned, it can get very busy on a Sunday so get in there early.

Popham on a Fly-In day.

The airfield cafe in the clubhouse serves good tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes and the burger van outside serves a bloody good full English breakfast along with tasty rolls and burgers.

If you're down there next year come and have a chat, I'm the fat bugger on the "FOLLOW ME" buggy.

Not strictly an on airfield Cafe but less than 5 mins walk from the Gate petrol Station at Northolt in Station Approach South Ruislip is Ciminos Cafe you get 30 mins free parking by ticket in the slip road outside.

I have been going there for 22 years good food tasty Rigatoni Tuna only downside is if you spend to long you could miss a visitor but really friendly.

Grabbed a coffee and Bacon roll from the AV-8 at Kemble a few times in the summer, it's nice to sit out on the decking and watch the airfield movements.

On the South side at Bristol international is the Bristol & Wessex flying club, there food is delicious and gets serves with great pride and happiness, us spotters are warmly welcome and is just nice to sit and watch the light aircraft and biz jets taxing by!
